Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has urged Kenya's opposition leaders to remain united as they prepare for the 2027 General Election, warning that internal divisions could weaken efforts to challenge President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration.

Salasya said the opposition's current focus should be on building a broad coalition capable of presenting a formidable challenge in the next election. Salasya argued that parallel political activities by Linda Mwananchi could undermine the opposition if they create division rather than strengthen unity.
"The United Opposition appears focused on building a broad coalition capable of challenging the Kenya Kwanza administration. In contrast, Linda Mwananchi risks undermining that effort if its parallel activities create division rather than unity," Salasya said.

Call for a United Front

Salasya emphasized that opposition leaders should prioritize cooperation over competition, noting that a fragmented opposition would have a harder time unseating the ruling coalition.
His remarks come at a time when various opposition figures and political movements are engaged in discussions aimed at forming alliances ahead of the 2027 polls.

Political Landscape
The comments reflect the ongoing debate within Kenya's opposition over the best strategy to consolidate support and present a united political front. Political analysts have consistently noted that coalition-building is likely to play a significant role in determining the outcome of the next general election.
While Salasya expressed concern over activities he believes could divide the opposition, no official response from Linda Mwananchi had been made public at the time of his remarks.
