President William Samoei Ruto is expected to officially commission the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road overpass at The Junction Mall in Nairobi, marking the completion of a major infrastructure project aimed at easing traffic congestion along one of the city's busiest transport corridors.
Project to ease congestion
The overpass, implemented by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority, features an approximately 800-metre elevated dual carriageway designed to separate through traffic on Ngong Road from vehicles accessing Naivasha Road and King'ara Road. The project also includes improved junctions, pedestrian walkways and cycling lanes to enhance road safety and mobility.
Improving connectivity
Once operational, the overpass is expected to significantly reduce traffic delays for motorists travelling between Ngong, Dagoretti and Nairobi's Central Business District. It is also expected to improve access to nearby facilities, including the Talanta Stadium precinct, as the government continues preparations for major regional sporting events.
Part of wider infrastructure programme
The commissioning forms part of the government's broader strategy to modernise Nairobi's transport network through road expansion and rehabilitation projects. Earlier this year, President Ruto announced that the overpass would be completed by June after works reached the final stages, describing the junction as a long-standing traffic bottleneck.
The opening of the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road overpass is expected to provide relief to thousands of motorists who use the corridor daily, while improving traffic flow and connectivity across Nairobi.
