Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has defended the government's development record, asserting it will play a pivotal role in President William Ruto’s campaign for re-election in 2027. He emphasized that the upcoming general election will be chiefly a contest between tangible performance and service delivery versus empty rhetoric and division.
Focus on Performance and Service Delivery
Speaking during the launch of infrastructure projects in Msambweni, Kindiki highlighted the government's focus on transforming livelihoods through improvements in roads, electricity connectivity, markets, and the blue economy. He pointed out that President Ruto would seek re-election based on his administration’s achievements in these areas.
“Next year’s election is a simple contest between performance and delivery against empty rhetoric, propaganda, and division,” Kindiki stated. He also criticized opposition leaders for previously occupying senior government positions without making meaningful improvements.
The government has allocated significant resources towards enhancing infrastructure and access to essential services. For example, Sh1.8 billion has been set aside to connect over 15,300 households in Kwale County to the national electricity grid, while the Sh256 million Msambweni Last Mile project will benefit more than 2,500 households across 31 villages.
In addition, the administration is investing heavily in the blue economy, including the construction of the Sh2.6 billion Shimoni Fish Port, which is described as the largest fish port in East Africa. Efforts are also underway to modernize fishing vessels and support deep-sea fishing, promising increased earnings for fishermen.
Kindiki also reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving land disputes and issuing title deeds at the coast, alongside efforts to ensure all Kenyans are treated equally on national ID documents. He assured that the 2027 elections would be free and fair, with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission safeguarding the voters’ will.
