A man suspected of impersonating a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) member was arrested at Sony Green Stadium in Migori County after he was found in possession of a firearm during a football match. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, June 7, involved law enforcement officials intercepting an individual attempting to breach security.
Suspected Impostor and Armed Antics at Sony Green Stadium
The suspect was seen trying to force his way into the VIP section during a match between Migori Youth FC and Equity Bank FC. Security personnel quickly responded to his actions and attempted to restrain him. In the ensuing confrontation, the man allegedly pulled out a firearm, prompting law enforcement officers stationed at the venue to act swiftly.
The officers disarmed the suspect and restored order, preventing the situation from escalating further. A search revealed a CZ pistol loaded with ten rounds of ammunition. The suspect was later revealed to be masquerading as a KDF officer at the time of his arrest, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Further investigations showed that the firearm belonged to a civilian licensed firearm holder who admitted to handing it to the suspect. Both individuals are now in police custody as inquiries continue. The incident occurred amidst a victorious night for Migori Youth FC, who secured a 2-1 win over Equity FC, earning promotion to Kenya’s FKF Premier League and qualifying for matches against top clubs such as Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.
