Kenyan security forces have killed 11 suspected Al-Shabaab militants during a pre-dawn military operation conducted near the Kenya-Somalia border.
According to security officials, the operation was based on intelligence reports indicating that armed militants were planning attacks in the border region. Security personnel launched the raid before dawn, leading to a fierce exchange of fire between the militants and government forces.
Several other suspected militants were reportedly injured during the operation, although the exact number has not been disclosed.
Weapons and Ammunition Recovered
Following the operation, security officers recovered three PKM machine guns and approximately 409 rounds of ammunition believed to have been in the possession of the militants.
The recovered weapons have been taken for forensic examination as investigators continue gathering intelligence on the group's activities and possible networks operating within the region.
Ongoing Counter-Terrorism Efforts
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and other security agencies have continued to intensify operations along the Kenya-Somalia border to disrupt Al-Shabaab activities.
The militant group has previously carried out attacks targeting security personnel, public transport, schools, and civilians in Kenya, particularly in counties bordering Somalia. In response, the government has increased intelligence gathering, border surveillance, and joint operations aimed at preventing further attacks.
