Chairperson Erastus Ethekon specifically lauded Turkana County for its exceptional turnout. With 47,000 new voters already on the books, Turkana currently leads the Rift Valley region and ranks among the top ten counties for registration activity.
Overcoming Barriers with Mobile Units
To ensure the 2027 General Election is truly inclusive, the IEBC has introduced Mobile Registration Units. This initiative is specifically designed to tackle the logistical hurdles faced by citizens in marginalized areas.
- Solving the Communication Gap: These units bring the registration process directly to residents in regions where poor infrastructure and limited communication make traveling to fixed centers difficult.
- Targeting Remote Areas: By mobilizing IEBC officials, the commission is ensuring that distance is no longer a barrier to the ballot.
"We are encouraging the young people in Turkana and those elder people registering for the first time... they should come out in large numbers and be registered as voters so that their voices can be heard in the 2027 general election."
