Political tensions are rising in Siaya County after a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) announced plans to initiate an impeachment motion against Governor James Orengo.
The MCA accused Governor Orengo of poor leadership, failure to deliver key development projects, and lack of transparency in the management of county funds. According to the MCA, several projects in the health, roads, and water sectors have stalled, causing frustration among residents.
Speaking to the media, the MCA said the move to impeach the governor is meant to protect the interests of Siaya residents. “We cannot remain silent as leaders when services are not reaching the people. The assembly must act in line with the law,” the MCA stated.
However, allies of Governor Orengo have strongly opposed the impeachment move, describing it as politically driven. They argue that the governor has been working under difficult economic conditions and has made efforts to improve service delivery in the county.
Supporters of the governor have also urged MCAs to prioritize development and dialogue instead of engaging in political confrontations that could disrupt county operations.
For the impeachment to proceed, the motion must be tabled in the County Assembly and supported by a majority of MCAs, in accordance with constitutional procedures. As the debate unfolds, residents of Siaya County are keenly following developments, concerned about how the political standoff may affect service delivery.
