In a communication dated February 28, 2026, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula formally appointed members of the committee, tasking them with liaising closely with the family of the late lawmaker to ensure a dignified and respectful send-off.
“I have appointed you to the Ad Hoc Parliamentary Funeral Planning Committee to support and liaise with the family and coordinate a befitting send-off for the late Hon. Ng’eno,” the Speaker said in his letter to committee members.
The committee is chaired by Tinderet MP Julius Melly, with Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri serving as vice-chairperson. It brings together lawmakers from both Houses of Parliament, reflecting the national significance attached to Mr. Ng’eno’s passing.
Among the prominent members are Senators David Wafula Wakoli (Bungoma), Wakili Hillary Sigei (Bomet), Oketch Eddy Gicheru (Migori) and several Members of Parliament from across the political spectrum.
The Speaker also confirmed that the Clerk of the National Assembly has appointed a secretariat to provide administrative and logistical support, including disseminating funeral programme information.
Mr. Ng’eno, who was serving his third term in Parliament, died in a helicopter crash at Chepkiep in Mosop Constituency, Nandi County on February 28, 2026, alongside five others.
His death has triggered widespread mourning across the political divide, with leaders praising his contributions to public life. President William Ruto described the late MP as “focused, vocal, and fearless” and vowed that the Government would support a coordinated funeral process for Ng’eno and the other victims of the crash.
The burial is expected to be held later this week, following consultations between the family and national leaders.
