The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has kicked off by-elections in four areas to fill vacant leadership positions.
The mini polls are being conducted to elect a new Member of the National Assembly for Isiolo South, as well as ward representatives in West Kabras in Kakamega County, and Muminji and Evurore wards in Embu County.
Voting began early Thursday morning, with residents turning up at various polling stations to cast their ballots. Among those who voted was Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi, who cast his ballot at Kanyuambora Low Cost Boarding Primary School in Evurore Ward, Mbeere North Constituency.
The Isiolo South parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of Mohamed Tubi, who had been elected in 2022. Meanwhile, the MCA positions fell vacant after the respective office holders resigned to vie for parliamentary seats during the November 27 by-elections.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon assured the public that the commission had adequately prepared for the exercise. He noted that all necessary election materials, technology, and personnel had been deployed, adding that officials received training emphasizing professionalism, integrity, and proper handling of results.
