A man from Nandi County has caused a stir online after publicly declaring that he is looking for a “sugar mummy” to help him survive the rising cost of living in Kenya.
The man, identified as Kane Vitali Samoe, said the tough economic situation has pushed him to seek financial support from an older, wealthy woman. He explained that life has become unbearable due to high prices of basic commodities, unemployment, and limited opportunities.
In a surprising move, Samoe directly appealed to Mama Ida Odinga, the widow of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saying she is the only person who could help him change his life. He asked her to assist him with either a job opportunity, preferably in government, or work on her farm.
According to Samoe, if Mama Ida were to support him, he believes he would be able to live a better life and eventually become financially stable. He added that if her late husband were still alive, he would have approached him for help, but since that is not possible, he felt reaching out to Mama Ida was his last option.
Samoe further warned that if he does not receive assistance, he will have no choice but to continue searching for a sugar mummy to provide him with financial support.
The unusual plea has sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans online. While some sympathized with his struggles and pointed to the harsh economic realities facing many citizens, others expressed shock, disbelief, and criticism over his direct appeal to one of the country’s most respected public figures.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing frustration among unemployed and struggling Kenyans as the cost of living continues to rise, forcing many to take unconventional steps in search of survival.
