Heavy rainfall has caused River Oluch to burst its banks in Bala area, Koyugi Location, Karachuonyo Constituency, Homa Bay County, affecting over 60 families. 10 families were displaced after their homes were submerged, but they've been evacuated to safer ground. Household items, chicken, and crops were swept away by the floods.

The Riwa Special Economic Zone, under construction through a partnership between the national and county governments, has also been flooded, dealing a blow to the local economy. Transport along the Bala-Homa Bay Road is disrupted, isolating the area and hampering relief efforts.

Area chief Irene Ojwang is urging residents to move to safer locations like local churches and Bala Comprehensive School to prevent injuries or loss of life. "We appeal to the residents to cooperate with authorities and move to designated safe areas," she said.

The floods have highlighted concerns about disaster preparedness in the region. With heavy rains expected to continue, residents are worried about further damage and potential loss of life.
