Eight foreign nationals were rescued during a multi-agency operation led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) at a rehabilitation facility in Kajiado County.
According to NACADA, the operation was conducted in collaboration with other government security and enforcement agencies following concerns over the operations of the rehabilitation centre. The identities and nationalities of the rescued individuals have not been disclosed.
Multi-Agency Operation
NACADA said the rescue was part of ongoing efforts to ensure rehabilitation centres across the country comply with legal and operational standards. Authorities also sought to protect the rights and welfare of individuals undergoing treatment for substance use disorders.
During the operation, officials inspected the facility and assessed its compliance with licensing requirements, treatment standards, and regulations governing rehabilitation services.
Investigations Underway
Authorities have launched investigations to establish the circumstances under which the eight foreign nationals were being accommodated at the facility. Investigators are expected to determine whether the centre complied with Kenya's laws governing the admission and treatment of foreign patients.
Officials are also examining whether any immigration, licensing, or human rights laws may have been violated.
NACADA's Warning
NACADA has reiterated that all rehabilitation centres operating in Kenya must be licensed and adhere to the standards set under the country's laws and regulations. The agency warned that facilities found operating illegally or failing to meet the required standards risk enforcement action, including closure and prosecution where applicable.
The authority urged members of the public to verify that rehabilitation centres are properly licensed before enrolling individuals for treatment and encouraged anyone with information about illegal or unlicensed facilities to report it to the relevant authorities.
