The Director of Public Prosecutions, Renson Ingonga, has called for heightened civic responsibility, national unity, and active citizenship as the country prepares for the August 2027 General Elections.
Speaking during the launch of the Mimi ni Mkenya initiative, Ingonga said the program comes at a critical moment in Kenya’s democratic journey, stressing the need for an informed and engaged population to safeguard electoral integrity.
“This initiative is both timely and necessary. It comes at a critical point in our democratic journey, where strengthening civic responsibility is essential to safeguarding the integrity of our electoral processes,” said Ingonga.
He emphasized that credible elections depend not only on institutions but also on the active participation of citizens who understand their rights and responsibilities.
“Fostering an informed and engaged citizenry is key to ensuring that our elections remain free, fair, and credible,” he added.

“We appreciate the efforts by Nation Media Group in advancing initiatives that promote national cohesion and democratic ideals,” he said.
The DPP further linked the initiative to constitutional provisions, highlighting the importance of upholding national values and electoral principles as outlined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
“The objectives of Mimi ni Mkenya align with Article 10 on national values, Article 38 on political rights, and Article 81 on free and fair elections. These principles must be upheld not just during elections, but throughout the entire electoral cycle,” Ingonga noted.
The Mimi ni Mkenya initiative seeks to promote unity, responsible citizenship, and adherence to democratic principles ahead of the 2027 polls, amid growing focus on electoral preparedness and national cohesion.
