The son of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and a co-accused are set to appear before the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
Bellarmine “Chatunga” Mugabe and another suspect were taken into custody after a 23-year-old gardener was shot at Mugabe’s residence in Hyde Park, north of Johannesburg, last week.
The victim reportedly suffered two gunshot wounds and remains in critical condition in hospital.
The two men have been charged with attempted murder and are being held at Bramley Police Station following their arrest.
Police have yet to recover the firearm believed to have been used in the incident.
Security analyst Andy Mashaile has suggested that the crime scene may have been interfered with. According to him, someone from within may have removed the weapon deliberately, potentially contaminating the scene and compromising crucial evidence — an act he says could amount to obstructing justice.
