The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) was yesterday rocked by a major leadership shake-up after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was removed from his position as the party’s Secretary General.
The decision was reportedly made during a high-level party meeting attended by members of the National Executive Committee (NEC). According to party insiders, the move followed internal disagreements and growing tensions over the party’s direction and public statements made by the senator in recent weeks.
Sources within ODM indicated that concerns had been raised about discipline and unity within the party leadership. The NEC is said to have resolved that changes were necessary to strengthen internal structures and maintain cohesion as the party prepares for future political battles ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna, who has been a vocal and outspoken leader within ODM, has in the past publicly expressed strong opinions regarding the party’s strategy and cooperation with other political formations. His removal now signals deeper divisions within one of Kenya’s leading opposition parties.
Following his ouster, the party has appointed an acting Secretary General to take over the responsibilities as consultations continue. However, the development has sparked mixed reactions among party supporters and political observers. While some believe the move was necessary to restore order, others argue that it may widen internal cracks within ODM.
As the political landscape continues to shift, all eyes remain on how Sifuna will respond and what this means for ODM’s unity moving forward.
More updates are expected as the situation develops.
